Chapter Statement:
As the Carolinas-Virginias Chapter of SCCM,
We acknowledge the social injustice experienced by the Black communities in our region due to personal and systemic racism.
We stand by our members, colleagues, patients, and patients’ families who have experienced and continue to experience social inequalities.
We are concerned about the racism you experience personally and professionally in your communities, organizations and relationships. We also recognize our responsibility in having perpetuated these wrongs, knowingly or unknowingly.
We will continue to work toward better care and outcomes for our patients with known healthcare disparities while acknowledging the roles of systemic racism and privilege in healthcare.
We stand by our mission,
To serve the needs and represent the interests of critical care practitioners; to provide opportunities for involvement in local and regional activities; and to ensure the delivery of the highest quality of care to our communities.
