CVCSCCM Research Committee Mission Statement

To support, advance and promote the conduct and dissemination of high quality basic, translational and clinical research in critical care, by facilitating multi-disciplinary and multi-center collaboration while providing mentorship to junior researchers across organizations from all four Chapter States. The goal of these research efforts is to optimize the delivery of multi-disciplinary critical care, and improve clinically relevant patient outcomes.

Specific Goals:

To assist with access to institutionally available literature and patient databases; aid with study design and data analysis; data interpretation and presentation; enable multi-center sample and data collection; and facilitate the peer-review process.

Committee Member Expectations:

  1. Participate in >50% monthly conference calls (taking place the first Thursday of the month at 3pm EST), AND participate with feedback on the ongoing discussions/updates via email. 
  2. Participate in at least one research project.
    • This can be accomplished by providing input or feedback on research design and methodology; conduct of statistical analyses; enable access to resources required for the project; critical review of results; assist with manuscript drafting, editing or submission.
  3. Help advance the Mission of the Committee, as defined in the Mission Statement.

Budget Justification Form

  • The role of the CVC SCCM Research Committee is to support, advance and promote the conduct and dissemination of high quality basic, translational and clinical research in critical care, by facilitating multi-disciplinary and multi-center collaboration while providing mentorship to junior researchers across organizations from all four Chapter States. The goal of these research efforts is to optimize the delivery of multi-disciplinary critical care and improve clinically relevant patient outcomes.
  • More specifically, the Committee aims to assist with access to institutionally available literature and patient databases; aid with study design and data analysis; data interpretation and presentation; enable multi-center sample and data collection; and facilitate the peer-review process.
  • Funding may be allocated for up to $2,500 / 6-month funding period (summer and winter), with summer funds being rollable into the winter cycle if unused for up to $5,000 each year.
  •  Research projects requesting funding must:
    • Support / advance the mission of the CVC SCCM Research Committee, as delineated above, and
    • Are the result of a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional research effort.
  • Funds may be requested for direct research costs and dissemination/publication expenses, but not for conference registration and related travel/lodging at this time.
  • Funds may be requested only a priori, and not for reimbursement of already paid-for expenses.  
  • Any CVC SCCM member can apply, although priority will be given to CVC SCCM Research Committee members (involvement of Committee members or application for membership is highly encouraged).
  • The biannual deadlines are emailed to Committee members, appointed and at-large in late spring and late fall for a summer and winter review respectively.
